Businesses
Everything is a business these days. Anything can be an occupation. And almost any occupation can be called something else. You can be anything you want, you just have to change your title. A janitor is a biological engineer. A doctor is a personal health inspector. A McDonald’s employee is a bacteria farmer. Run a pet store, you’re a local wildlife salesman. A bum is a negative career opportunist.
But I think we can take this a little farther. I think you can make a profession out of anything. Like wearing shoes. You can be in the shoe wearing business. You wear shoes? Business is good then. When people ask me what I do, I tell them I’m in the teeth brushing business, and business is good. Then I smile to prove my point. I guess in that case I’m a dental hygienist.
If you’re eating at McDonald’s, you could just say you work there. You’re contributing to the company financially, aren’t you? You watch them make the food back there when you’re waiting for your order, don’t you? You’re a supervisor. You eat the food – you’re a food inspector. You drag mud in from outside – you’re…giving the mop guy something to do. But see, you’re contributing. And you’re ahead of the game – you make your own hours, your office has a swinging chair, and a great view. And if it doesn’t, you can move to another table!
It doesn’t pay that well though.
